On Tuesday (28/6) the Australian Financial Review ran a series of articles on the Centro Group situation. A story on page 7 by Hannah Low about the need for company directors to have financial literacy demonstrated to me why my membership of The Executive Connection (TEC) is so important.
TEC for me is about what I can learn from a group of my peers and from various experts. Since I’ve been a TEC member I’ve had the opportunity twice to listen to Dr Christopher Peters who’s area of expertise is the duties and responsibilities of company directors. A point Christopher raises is the need (as a company director) to be financially literate – to be able to understand company accounts information rather than relying on external experts. A point he again stressed to my TEC group earlier this year.
TEC, through speakers like Dr Peters and TEC’s peer environment means I’m abreast of important issues like this one and that I have the opportunity to discuss it in depth if needed – well ahead of the newspapers – and this is valuable
